We, the residents of Austin, are opposed to the systems of apartheid, occupation, genocide, and ethnic cleansing that have oppressed the people of Gaza and throughout Palestine for the past 75 years. As American consumers and taxpayers, we are complicit in these atrocities. Every year, the U.S. government sends $3.8 billion of our tax dollars to fund the Israeli occupation. In addition to this, the US imports around $396 million in agricultural products from Israel each year.

In 2005, Palestinian civil society issued a call for a global Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement to bring pressure on Israeli companies through targeted consumer boycotts. We as Austinites are working to assert our values by supporting any local Austin business that agrees to the principles of the BDS movement and pledges to support the end of the occupation by refusing to sell Israeli goods.
